With over 500 films, 26 exclusive original movies and series and thousands of television episodes from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more, the arrival of Disney Plus will no doubt be a welcome addition for Philips TV viewers wanting to expand their choice of content options under the current lockdown situation. Since 2019, Philips TVs have supported both Dolby Atmos immersive sound and Dolby Vision HDR and (as well as HDR10+ dynamic metadata format HDR) making them suitable for the Atmos/Vision compatible content on the Disney+ service.

Owners of earlier Philips Android TV models can find the app in the Google Play app store and add it to their favorites where they can manually change the order of the apps that appear on the Android homepage. Now it’s available though, purchasers of 2020 Philips Android TV models will have access via the Disney+ app on the Smart TV homepage.

In fact, the Disney Plus was supposed to be available on Philips Android TVs for the March 24th launch date but given current global events, the time frame appears to have drifted. Philips TV owners in the Netherlands were part of the first wave of launch territories and have had access since Nov 2019.

The announcement states that the Disney+ app is now available on a wide range of Philips Android TVs across European countries including the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and France.

The Disney+ streaming service is now available on Philips Ambilight Android TVs in the European countries where the much anticipated SVOD recently launched.Īlthough Philips’s unique immersive Ambilight technology makes its TV sets stand out from the crowd, the European electronics giant is now taking a step towards joining other TV manufacturers such as LG, Samsung and Sony in supporting Disney Plus.
